Hard drive temp diode?

MBM is giveing me a temp for my new Maxtor 6Y080P0 hard drive! Is it getting it from an on drive diode? If not where the hell is it comeing from?
 
I heard that all modern drives have them. I think wd and seagate had em first but im not sure. I have a maxtor 6EO40LO but ufortunatly it doesnt have a temp diode :(

Yep.. most newer drives have the as part of the SMART system...

IBM = IBM 60GXP 60GB drive, Seagate = 80GB 7200.7 Drive ( the new drive series they released a short while back :) )
