3D Mark 2001 SE Crashing in 2nd test...

Anyone ever have this problem before?

I installed a new HD the other day as my main drive, and had to reinstall WinXP plus my usual programs, but I kept it down to a minimum so as not to cause clutter. Then today I installed 3D mark and it keeps crashing to the desktop during the 2nd test.

Only thing I can think of thats different is that I installed it to the other HD, drive D... maybe it wants to run off drive C?

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Is your system overclocked? Sometimes if your system is overclocked too much it will kick you back to desktop.

Your system specs would really help in this situation

I have a question about 3DMark........

Is iit more sensative to CPU or FSB?????
And how much does ram timings play a factor?????

3dmark is more FSB sensitive. Just like Unreal 2003.

ok here goes:

1.3 ghz AMD Thunderbird
PNY Geforce4 Ti 4200
Via KT133A mobo (by future power)
512 MB PC133 RAM
Maxtor/CompUSA 80 GB 7200 RPM HDD

My system is basically exactly the same as it was before, with the exception of the fact that I installed the new hard drive, and therefore had to reinstall all my programs as well as WinXP.. you'd think that'd make everything run better, not worse!!

before the install, I was running the same drivers, as well as directX 9.0a

I'll try what someone mentioned and reinstall my vid card drivers tomorrow.. I can reinstall DX also? I'll look into it!

thanks again for the help

PS. By the way, when 3DMark03 was running, tests 2 and 3 ran absolutely HORRIBLY. I mean less than 10 FPS.. I was expecting my PC to have trouble, but not THAT much trouble..

I'd be perfectly happy with 3DMark01 if it would just work :/

So what you're saying is that the system is not overclocked? I don't see anything posted in your specs.

When doing something like installing your OS, I would DEFINATELY set the system to defaults (no overclocks). You never know....

Also, don't expect your system to run 3DMark03, period. If you see it spit out a few frames, be thankful. That 03 will bring any system to its knees.

well I reinstalled my device drivers, uninstalled 3DMark03 and reinstalled 3DMark01 SE, and it did the exact same thing... finished the second test, and rather then load the next test it just crashed me back to the desktop..

this is VERY frustrating

its the same damn hardware as before and same exact drivers
