If the bios (v1.03, v1.04, & v1.05) on the Tyan TigerMP s2460 recognizes all processors above 2000+ as an MP/XP2000+:

Can the s2460 FULLY utilize the clock speed increase of a
2400+ or 2600+ processor ?

Would a system with a core clock speed of 2 gHz (2400+)
REALLY process a big file ( .AVI -> mpeg2) 25% faster than
a system with a 1.6 gHz (1900+) core clock speed ?

Well in some heavy processing, the limit is memory bandwidth, but it really depends on your application. If you do go with the higher CPU, you have that raw power available, but if your bottleneck is elsewhere (memory, disk) then it might go unutilized.

Keep in mind that the 2460 does not support CPU's over 2000+ and has been known to burn up the ATX connector, when running high speed CPU's 24/7.

Search around here, and 2CPU for documentation of the issue and a possible workaround mod for the motherboard.
