my 8k3a died

okay so this morning my computer wasn't on and i know i left it on. well long story short my motherboard's atx power conenctor melted and destroyed the mobo.. testing the PSU right now but so far its still working (though some plastic has melted off) and running fine all voltages are within normal operating perimeters...

this past week however i noticed MBM reporting like 4.4-4.7V on the 5V rail which it never did i just thought it might be due to the increased heat here in central PA...

im gonna try to RMA this board since it obviously self defected...

This is the second time this 8k3a has died on me,its going in the garbage can now.Luckily I had a shuttle ak31 for backup.

Is it the same pins burnt on yours as mine in this picture. The power supply seemed survive but like you said, there is plastic off it melted in the boards atx plug.

Thats just way to freaky though that we both had this same problem happen this morning on the same board lol.

i've got the impression that powmax screws up mobos, it killed my brothers ram and damaged the mobo A7V8X which severely undervolts the cpu now, the psu is fine tho, lol

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! LMFAO! shuttle ak31 as backup that's rich.

anyway, powmax psu's are pretty hopeless, from what i hear. what's odd and scary is that both of you are having issues with the 5v rails... my issues are on the 3.3v rails. i don't really know what to make of that.

[edit]i just realized i bumped an extremely stale thread. i'm sorry, and am begging for forgiveness.[/edit]

That shuttle board has always been there for me when I needed it,never let me down unlike my 8k3a which died twice and to be honest I really dont even see a real life difference in performance between the two, sure benchmarks would say differently.I did order an 8rda that same day and its really not all that I expected.About a week after this happened I noticed i had a rheostat that was bad,I didnt know how long it had been bad but I think that it may have been part of the problem.

Sparepart needed!!

Hi! If u guys still have those ruined 8k3a:s hanging there with u, I'd be veery happy if u sent me one 5V-FET from it... I have one 8k3a that might get well again if just one dead 5V-FET would get replaced.. It's one of those six voltageregulators near processorsocket, they r model of 15N03L. This is a rev. 1.0 board. I tried to ask for that chip from variuos places in the winter, with no luck. Could u help me out?? :-) That little chip would easily travel from anywhere in the world to here Finnland, just in a letter! ;-P My email: p7_man@luukku.com

Crap!!!! I coulda used some of the capacitors from it!!!! I had my caps leak on me about two weeks ago on my 8K3A+. Damn, it was working like a gem too. BTW, I was thinking about RMAing it to Epox, but since I bought it as a refurb from Newegg, do you think they would still take it back?
