Hi all, I'm new to this forum, but I just built a new computer, specs:

P4 2.4 ghz C1 stepping
300w sparkle psu
512 mb stick of kingston hyperx pc2700 (2-2-2-5)
radeon 9500 non-pro (red pcb...going to mod it if i get this fixed)
3 old 5400 rpm HDD's (bleh)
48x24x48 cd-rw
(Running at stock speed)

The problem is, I ran 3dmark2001 on it and I get 4500-5000 3dmarks every time on 1024x768x32 (doesn't matter whether I use AA or not), and I was expecting probably around 10k 3dmarks...I've installed all the newest Catalyst drivers, but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is the video card that's bad and RMA-worthy, or is it something else?

I installed DirectX 9.0, does this screw up 3dmark2001 (which uses DX8.1)?

no, i went straight to cat 3.2 after i installed the drivers on the sapphire CD, and yes i installed the mobo drivers (all of them).

Do I have to uninstall the original CD drivers before I install the new Catalyst drivers?
