Radeon 9500 Pro Overclocking

What kind of results should I expect from a stock ATI Radeon 9500 Pro card powered by an Abit NF7-S Rev2.0 board and a 430Watt Antec True Power PSU? Do you think 300MHz Core is obtainable or far from it?

I'm just looking for an idea of what to expect, hence a friend of mine just got this card and needs some input and experience with this card.

Dude, 300mhz core is basically a given. A whole lot of people are hitting 350, and some of us lucky punks are hitting 370+ when you replace the cooling.

No mods to the card either, except for cooling on mine.

So what should I expect from ATI's Brand card Radeon 9500 Pro, 350 / 650?

That review at hardocp was harsh.. they couldnt get that card anywhere.

I think a 650 memory might be a little optimistic without some form of added cooling.

ATI retail 325/333, I have the worst core ever, but the mem flies! No cooling or Vmods.

Mine is a retail BBA card with 3.6 hynix memory. It hits 368/305, stock cooling. I might be able to go higher on the core, but powerstrip doesn't go any higher so I haven't bothered. I don't think it makes a difference if it's BBA or not, the memory is the only important variable.

do you guys find you can go higher on the memory speed if you leave the core speed a little lower? I can run like crazy on the core, but the memory has to stop at around 310 and at that point it benchmarks fine, but I still have to scale it back about 10 points for gaming. I am wondering if I cut the core back 20-30 points or so if I can push the memory a lot further...

And I second that. The core is the same on all cards, BBA or not (and as far as I know, none of the non-BBA 9500 pro cards have undervolted cores like the 8500 non-BBA cards (Powered By ATI). As a result, it's the memory that matters.

I suppose looking at the results from people that posted here should tell you that you can expect around 350mhz or so from the core. A little more if you are lucky and a little less if you are not...

As long as this card can smack around the TI 4800 and even a FX 5200 or 5600, then I'm fine.

The 9500 pro already does this at its default speed and overclocking it should further the gap even more between these cards.

Please take a look here:

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDQ0

According to HardOCP, at equal image quality, the 9500 pro is almost twice as fast as a 5600 Ultra.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind that the FX cards are clocked higher than the 9500 pro cards but they can still outperform the FX cards because of the stregth of ATI's R300 core.

As a result, since the core of the 9500 pros are stronger, these cards should scale very well and overclocking them should provide greater benefits than overclocking the FX cards (talking about the 5200 and the 5600 cards here).

Yeah overclocking my 9500 Pro gives me over 2000 more 3dmarks in 3dmark2001, so I get well over 15k.
