A newbie friend of mine said the following article was helpful in understanding the concepts of root and multi-user operating systems, so I figured I post it here:

Looks like there are a few other articles and such on that site that might be useful, but I only got around to reading the one on root. Seemed pretty good to me.
 
I'd hope that anyone who has used Win2k or XP would be at least a little familiar with the difference. the Administrator account=root, all other useser=other multi-users.
