having smiled at my recent successes i thought that i could not fail at unlocking my t-bred for the upteenth time, taking it out and cleaning, and using window defogger repair kit to unlock, trying to get it just right. well now it is right in the dumpster with a silver bead on one corner where carelessness got the better of me.

Are you sure its dead? Did you try cleaning it off and firing it up? Sometimes a bad unlock will just make the CPU not post, which you can fix by cleaning it off.
