i have a d-link di-604 router. i have my two computers in my network. when i go to set the network up i hafta enter this ip address and then it takes me to a link and does a setup. the thing is it only works if i do it on the machine that is plugged into the second port. shouldn't i be able to do it on the main machine?
does it make a difference? i really want the first computer get the most bandwidth.

hmm what are you trying to do ? setup the network ? like config each computer ? or configure the router ? you should just be able to plug both the computers into the router, then make sure they are on the same work group with File sharing enabled "if thats what you want to do" and make sure the router is setup as an DHCP server, in doing that you'll have to have your pc's auto maticly get an IP.

im just trying to get the internet on both. i got it ,but i can only enter the ip and setup the router from the 2nd computer, when i tried it on the primary it made both internets not work. i can access the router from both computers though

hmm : / I'll have to go to their web site and see if I can find anything about that.

What revision do you have? You can try upgrading your firmware or drivers here: http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

Also, routers generally split up the bandwidth evenly, so don't worry about how much bandwidth is going to what computer. That IP address that you enter is, of course, the internap IP address of the router and it uses the http protocol in your browser as your GUI. Is your router set up like DDR-PII said? Get back to us and let us know.
