That is FAST!! Think about the costs of it though. Plus you would only need it if you had an OC-192+ connection.

Currently, Harddrives read at around 60Megabytes/second, which equals about 480Megabits/second. Gigabit ethernet, 1000Megabits/second is twice the speed of your harddrive (which would provide the data that would be transferred across the network).
So.. if we can't use Gigabit to it's full extent right now, 40Gig will be a while before it's adopted.

I've heard about 10Gig ethernet, but 40Gig is new to me. It would be great for backbones, but I highly doubt it'll be affordable for home use anytime soon.. even 5 or so years from now.

hmm... somebody needs to stomp on the hard drive manufacturers to make their drives a little quicker we're being held back by our hard drives

they should just start making widely distributed ram drives " in the GB" then there would be very few bottlenecks
