well it never took over the second it went dual channel, if you look back on the E7205 I remember that not being as fast when compared with the I850E, although it wasnt long until the DCDDR boards began taking over I think the SIS655 was on of the first I seen do this. And obviously today with the I865, I875, especially considering the I875 is the I850Es replacement your looking at the "victory" of DCDDR

(I know they are all Intel based, but cant be bothered talking AMD atm )

rdram was already dual channel and, while single channel ddr was already nipping at it. ddr beating rd was inevitable. just have to remember that rdram just wasn't made to last this long, it was intended to be the best ram a couple years ago.

pc1066 RDRAM is still a bit faster than most DDR, with the exception of when it's DDR on canterwood boards. But consider the price:

RDRAM
2x128mb pc1066=$100 (insufficient for decent gaming on XP)
or
2x256mb pc1066=$230
or
2x512mb pc1066=$475

DDR
2x256mb pc3200=$90
or
2x256mb pc3700=$125
or
2x512mb pc3200=$160
or
2x512mb pc3700=$200
or
2x512mb corsair pc3200 twin pack, tested together in dual channel=$283

RAMBUS was originally set up with Intel money to try and control the DRAM market... They are not a manufacturer more a controller of design... When I was at Samsung running we always knew that it would have its day because the DRAM roadmap was always more impressive... DDR, DDRII etc were invented to take on RAMBUS.

I suppose Intel helped push the technology on though speed isnt everything with RAMBUS because of its seriel design it is much slower in real terms than DDR's parallel interface

didn't RDRAM run at a real high latency?
