Explain the 7 volt fan mod please...

Ok, I juts purchased an slk800A and Sunon 80mm fan for it. I see alot of people talking about and showing in there sig that the fan the yhave is 7 volt mod. What is it and how do I do it and what is the benefit of doing it? Thanks.

ground to 5V, keep the possitive at 12V.

As voltage is only potential difference...
its the difference in the 2 Supplied volts that the Fan will run at.
for 12V, you run the positive at 12V and the negitive at 0V giving a difference of 12V.

Likewise for the 7V mod.
(Possitive) 12V - (Negative) 5V = (potential voltage) 7V

You can also easily get 5V from a 4 pin Molex connector

possitive 5V and ground to 0V......

Using the ATX connector you can get LOTS of different combo's of voltage. Ranging from 24V to 3.3V

whoops forgot to answer the last part of your question.

What the 7V mod does is slow down the Fan so it isnt as loud....
the benifit of this is that less noise is produced at the expense of CFM
