is my maxtor 80 gig 8 mb cache 80 gig plaltters .it was made in april 2003. and lol im such a newbie but the biger the plater the better right?makes it faster?
 
tough call

the sure way to tell I heard is to look on the barcode or S/N on the front edge of the drive opposite the end with the connectors and jumpers.

I think it's the second digit that gives you the number of heads on your drive.
I have an 80GB 8MB cache Maxtor, and I have a "3" there
so I have 2 60GB platters on my drive (30Gb per platter, and one side of one platter is unused, and that adds up to 90GB, so I got gipped :))

If you have a "2", then you have an 80 GB platter
