Need stats on SLK-900.

Can someone please give me a few measurements of where the SLK-900 HS is touching the caps on the a7n8x dx mobo? I have my HS on order and found out too late but my order is already shipping. My HS will be here sooner than my mobo so I'm just gonna dremel out the places where the caps are touching in the meantime. I don't think it will take away any measurable amount of performace away from the HS by just removing where the caps are touching, any thoughts on this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you really don't want it, you can always refuse the delivery if it's through FEDEX or UPS. Call the place you bought it from and tell them you don't want it. I was able to do this before with Newegg and they were alright with it. They did not charge me a single cent.

I just got it today. It was well on it's way before I found that out. That thing is heavy for a HS. I paid $10 to ship it all and probably have to pay another $10 to ship that one back and ship another here so for the shipping I would use I could buy another decent HS. I'll just take my chances dremeling. After all, by the time I get done dremeling it, I'll still have alot more HS than what the SLK-800 offers and won't have to mess with shipping it. I just need a couple measurements from someone with the same setup if it's no trouble.

Thanks, I think I've found a new home. I've been reading the posts here for about 2 weeks but haven't been able to post but a couple times cuz I've had trouble logging in. It's a very technically informative site. Here where I live in Arkansas you can't find anyone to talk to about overclocking, it's just mainly technically ignorant hicks, or just Kazaa or email junkies who don't know anymore than that.

According to Thermaright website it IS possible to mount the 900 on your board, but 'severe bending of capacitors is required'. May be if you are careful in bending them, you don't have to dremel the crap out of a beautiful heatsink like that.

Well, I've dremeled it. I won't know if I dremeled it enough until I actually get the mobo. It took about 30 min and the fins got burred inbetween. So I had to get a round diamond-point bit to cut the burs off inbetween every fin. Wasn't really that big of a pain and it still looks good. The way I rounded the curves out makes it to where you can hardly tell it's been dremeled but I got enough off so I think I can clear them now. I would recommend doing that because it's not too hard and you don't have to risk the mobo. One lesson though is don't Dremel copper or any metal without protective eyeware. I got copper in my eye as we speak and haven't gotten it out yet. But here's a couple pics of it:

You'll notice I Dremeled the left side. BTW, how do you post pics on here and have them appear and load on the post?

Didn't work, it just posts a link to it. For some reason it won't let me edit my posts either and it sees that I'm logged in though.

I Dremeled mine a few months back. Just took off enough to clear the caps. I also had to remove the corner-most fin on the northbridge HS. I'm glad I did, I'm running my 2500+ (1833 stock) at 2371MHz @1.675 Vcore. I have a 119CFM Tornado on a rheobus and I can keep it about half speed. Well worth the modding.

I wish I had pics or measurements for you but I'm not gonna pull my sink off tonight, and the pics of it on the board don't give enough detail to help. I refuse to 'bend' the caps on a motherboard I love!!!

Congrats on a nice purchase and not having time to RMA it!!!
