Im looking to purchase a LRWW for my p4 and notice taht the cooling surface is quite small compared with the other block design...... I know that this design is perfect for the Athlons because of its small core, but will this design be effective in a P4 with its big die cover? would a maze4 be more effective?

It works just fine. The P4's heat is concentrated in the middle section of the heat-spreader. When that section is cooled well, the rest of the heat-spreader doesn't do much at all.
