Going above 12.5 multiplyer?

Is there anything special you are reqired to do to a xp1700 tbred B to get it to run above 12.5 multiplyer? I read that you have to close or open some bridges to get them to run at x13+ but I was confused if that was only for motherboards that did not have the higher multiplyers or if it was locked by the CPU.

I ask because I can't get my system to post, even at low FSB's at anything higher than x12.5.

Ya, it's locked like that and you have to mod it to unlock 12.5+.. and i think you only can use 12.5+ then, but i'm not totally sure.

I "heard" that some nForce2 motherboards unlock multipliers therefore physical unlocking is not necessary, but I am not sure. I have Throughbred B on nForce2 mobo and did not unlock anything, however, could change my multiplier up to 18 (not below default of 12 though)

Most TBredBs are factory unlocked, but only for the higher multis. You should be able to get the higher multis without any problem if your motherboard can select them. BTW, this should be in the AMD forum, but general hardware is fine too.

the only board that will give you all the multi's is the abit nf7. all the rest require modding.

If you can't adjust to those multipliers with the bios, you're going to have to blow some of the L3 bridges to get the multiplier you want.
Which ones you ask?

http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/ht..._painting.html

How to blow them you ask? Well, I'll let you use the search button at the top of this page to figure that out.

I know you can blow them with the 5v line from a PSU.

But

What I was origionaly trying to ask, and what that grafic did not really answer for me in the first place, was can you unlock the 13+ multi's so that you can select them in the BIOS. Unless I am mistaken that little bridge mod flash thing has all the bridge paterns for hard coding your chip to boot at a certin multiplyer. For me, that seems quite a hassle, having to blow/connect bridges each time you want to change the multi.

Not true. The Soltek boards w/ the Nforce 2 chipset, provide all multipliers < 12.5 and > 12.5 without any CPU modding whatsoever.

BTW, yes there is a way to change the multiplier selection from 5-12.5 to 12.5+. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the only one you have to mod is the FIFTH L3 bridge. I'm not 100% sure if it's blown or connected to achieve the higher multipliers however. I know this can be done, it's been posted here on the forum several times. Try a search. Good luck!

Yeah I had heard that you only had to blow the 5th L3 bridge... and I tried it and the CPU was "dead". Than I reconnected it with a dab of conductive paint and back to normal... but still can't POST at anything higher than x12.5

It's blowing the 5th L3.... But there's a problem: The first time you put the chip in, it will see the chip at the new default multiplier, a multiplier of 3. A lot of boards don't work with multipliers under 5. So you're going to have to blow MORE bridges for a default multiplier of 13 or greater.

do you mean the soltek sl-75frn-l? because http://www.digital-daily.com/motherb...nl/index05.htm says it doesnt.

In fact, the way out is easy, - as the reader might say, - if we can't overclock the system bus, then we should increase the multiplier. But here rises one more problem - the thing is on most nForce II motherboards 4 bits are allocated for the multiplier encoding. As a result, most multipliers are superposed, e.g. 7.0 and 15.0. So, even if we fit a processor with the multiplier unlocked, the board is unable determining which multiplier the user needs precisely: the lower or the higher.

Only one board of those tested by us has a 5-bit encoding - this is again Abit NF7(-S). To attain high multiplier values, owners of other boards have to either modify the processor or modify the processor socket.

The SL-75FRN-L is the early revision Soltek board released. I should have stated that the Soltek boards w/ the Ultra 400 Nvidia chipset posess the ability to alter mutlipliers throughout the entire range. I apologize for any confusion.

I have used the SL-75FRN-L, and it is missing several things that are present in the SL-75FRN2-(R)L (R for optional Raid), and MRN-L. These are the most current board from Soltek, all with Nvidia's latest revision chipset. They all can alter multipliers as mentioned, as well as adjust VDD voltage, both of which are not present on the early revision board you mentioned.

Um... I was unable to go above 12.5 on my A7V8X until I blew the 3rd and 5th L3 bridges, hence this post, setting the defult multi at 13. Than I was able to get it to post at 13, 14, 15, and 16, but it was running stable at 14.

My Biostar also lets me drop and raise the multiplier without L3 bridging.
