GTA III on Voodoo3

I cant get GTAIII to run on Voodoo3, Celeron 1.1Ghz and, 128MB Sdram on WinXP ( Win98 is the same story ). The game starts but after I get in car it locks. Is there anyone who has played GTAIII on Voodoo3??? If yes, what kind of drivers or patches do you use????
Thanks for replies!!!

I think that it's impossible, and if you did get it to work it would be like 0.1 fps.

Even if you get it working I still think you're going to experience choppy game play, and more crashes.

Sorry dude voodoo3's are sold by the lb nowadays.

people stop bashing the voodoo. he DID NOT ask weather the card was good or not, did he?

in the emulation scene, the v3 is widely regarded as one of the best cards you can get. Anyway, that's not the point.......

please, only post if you can help him.

mabey there is a patch you can download or something similar. Performance wont be stellar though.

Well I haven't played GTAIII on a Voodoo3, but I have played Black and White, Rogue Spear, Urban Operations and UT with mine. Those little suckers run HOT! I'd try slapping on a good HSF (mine's pretty big-check it out here) Before I put that heatsink on there, the card would get so warm (b/c I had to o/c it a little to play my games) that it would lock up. After I put that HSF on the core, the card performed great. Not as well as my GeForce 4 Ti4200, but still I was impressed. Thats the first thing I would do. Get a nice little (or big) HSF and slap it on that baby. If you have Windows 2000, I'd install that, as I found that my Voodoo 3 performs better in Win2k than in XP or 98. Dunno why though. But if you don't have it, I'd reccomend heading on over to voodoofiles.com. Just click on the 3dfx button for 3rd party drivers and get your hands on the Voodoolizer 1.05 for Windows 2k/XP. That should help get you going. Those help improve DirectX 8.1 compatibilty with the Voodoo 3/4/5 cards. If you need to o/c the card a little to get your games to run ok, I'd reccomend you download a little utility called powerstrip. I'm unsure of the link to it, but just search for "powerstrip" on google. Hope this info helps you!

*edit* Oh yeah- I forgot to mention I was using my Voodoo 3 on only a Celeron 466 with a 66MHz FSB , So I think you will experience better results than me!

The reason the Vooodoo 3 does not work with GTA3 is because there are no direct x 8 drivers for the card. I hear that you can use the overhead view and you can play. Otherwise, its probably time for a new card.

Try searching Voodoofiles.com for an answer. They might just have one

I don't think that is necessarily true. Take a look at the 3rd party drivers here. The review for the Voodoolizer 1.05.00 for Windows 9X says that:

Quote:
--english-- Fixlist: - full DirectX 8.1 compatibility - new Glide-API - improved Glide-compatibility - Glide-speed in several games has been increased clearly - smaller problems with DirectX-applications have been fixed - improved DirectX-speed - improved DirectX-imagequality - support for V5 6000 - Glide-support for Banshee and Velocity --> www.voodooalert.de
Keep in mind thats the Voodoolizer drivers for Windows 9X. The Windows XP drivers, which claim full DirectX 9.0 compatibilty, can be found here.

P.S. - Alien76- I have official Windows 2000 drivers (also work with XP) from 3dfx. I also have Voodoolizer drivers for Win2k/XP that DO work with DirectX 8.1. If you're interested, just gimme a PM
