Over 10 550W PSU's here under $30 Quest for best buy! (plz read & Participate)

Alright, I just jumped into the hardcore overclocking scene and just got me a new AMD processor, So i went looking for a powerfull powersupply that will do what i need and wont break my bank.

I found many cheap 550wat PSU's but i read here that a 550Wat dosent necissarily mean 550Watts, So now i am going to list every single PSU that i found and links to them, and will call them one by one to find out which one is a QUALITY psu that is ACTUALLLY 550W and worth my money.

I cant call everyone by myself, and i dont have much time after work, so if you can call these companies and get the information for these PSU's please do so, be sure to list the number and the link for each PSU so we know which one you are talking about.

I found the following 550wat PSU's all under $30 bucks:

1- http://www.str8buy.com/500wap4andam.html

2- http://store.yahoo.com/amamax/poma550wap4a1.html

3- http://order.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bi...093c25c4c8ee188d8eef4a340736bb2f69da157d65536

4- http://www.upgradecenterinc.com/psgeatx-550.html

5- http://www.upgradecenterinc.com/550waatxposu.html

6- http://store.yahoo.com/amamax/psspecial0atxeb550p.html

7- http://ww1.colorcases.com/neo/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=3&subcat=17&cat=Power+Supplies 550Watt ColorCases

8- http://www.pcimicro.com/.sc/ms/dd/1...-Generic/933/Achieve 550 watts power supply w^2F%20Dual%20fan%20NEW%20REATAIL%20BOX

9- http://store.yahoo.com/akidacomputer/ac55atxpowsu.html

10- http://store.yahoo.com/mrtech/55powsupretb1.html

11- http://www.buypcdirect.com/product.asp?pf_id=PWPS550W

12- http://www.openlinx.com/english/ click "Power Supply" to the left then click OKIA 550W

If any links dont work post here so that i correct them!

If you want to help please read the following threads first:

T1- http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=150384

T2- http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62822

Then call up those websites/distributors and ask them for the Combined +3.3V & +5V maximum output power.

When done, post the number of the powersupply (listed above next to its link) and list the link to it aswell, then list the info that the website/distributor gave you as well as any other info or opinion you have.

ALSO: If you know for a fact that a certain PSU is crap please list the number and link to it and state why it is crap.

Even if nobody helps, i will call all 12 myself!

Hope i have helped a few people out, or aroused interest in some, i will do this tomorrow after work.

Since I'm too lazy to look through all 10 of those links, I'll just skip to the end result:

They all suck

If you're looking for a good cheap power supply, fortron/sparkle is your best bet. You can get a 350W fortron for $32 at newegg, and it is more powerful than any of the power supplies in your links.

I did take a glance at these links, but still agree with Giblet... I wouldn't trust a single one of these to even come close to 550w. Not worth the risk IMO.

8- http://www.pcimicro.com/.sc/ms/dd/1...er supply w^2F%20Dual%20fan%20NEW%20REATAIL%20BOX

9- http://store.yahoo.com/akidacomputer/ac55atxpowsu.html

I looked up the specs for this power supply ( both links sell the same power supply ) and found that this particular power supply has a max output of 270W for +3.3V & +5V.

+3.3V & +5V 270W max

But someone had stated earlier that it is a bad powersupply so i am going to do more research on this power supply if i do not find a better one amongst the links later on, then i will look into this one a bit further...

xX~EXCELSIOR~Xx please be more specific about this powersupply, saying "its a no-no" is a pretty vague answer, if you can give me good reason as to why its a bad PSU then i will eliminate it completely.

Thats 4 down and 8 to go!

11 & 12

Both these links sell an OKIA 550W power supply, Right now at my job i am staring at a 480W max okia powersupply that DOES NOT lis the 3.3v and 5 Max output W. Matter of fact the computer i am typing from is powered by an okia 480W powersupply, its running Pentium 4 2.4ghz and it seems fine.

I have tried calling around for the 3.3v and 5v outputs for this powersupply but i am not surprised for not finding them since it dosent seem to list it at all.

Since i am running a pentium 4 2.4ghz on this okia and it seems to run fine, i think its an OK powersupply, but there is no way i am buying it without the specs......

I wish there was some way to test the powersupplies to get the max 3.3v and 5v outputs for them..... or at least some way to get it from the rest of the specs....

6 down and 6 to go!

'nuff said

I don't think you are setting your sights high enough. I think you should narrow the field down to supplies that claim 600W for no more than $9.99. This list will contain as many good investments as your current one.

haha larva, i would if i could! But you see, for some reason the price difference between powersupplies that are 550W and 650W is 50 dollers on ANY powersupply you find...

I find that strange, if people are "claiming" 550 and not giving 550, why not just claim 650 at the same price?

Let's not get too caught up in the scammer's art. Whatever claims are made for devices of this type are irrelevant, well except that we can safely assume that anything claiming over 500W output for less than 40 bucks is garbage designed to seperate one from one's wallet.

Applying realistic expectations to your purchase will allow some decent power supplies to seep through you qualifications. Proceeding as you are insures junk.

In the US Fortron 350W power supplies are available from newegg for $32. This is the best value going. The other supplies that I like are the Fortron 530 and the Antec True Power 430. These are more powerful 70 dollar devices. Any reasonably sized Fortron/Sparkle or Antec supply will do fine; don't expect that wishing them to make twice their actual power or cost half their true amount makes this a reality.

I have to second with larva here...I have an Antec truepower 430 and it's been a very good PSU. I have lots of components in my system and also am overclocking a 2.4B to 3.33 ...CD-RW, DVD, floppy, 7 fans (2 from PSU), 2 HD
