9700pro is the better price/performance deal.

I would just get a 9700np for like 200$ unless you have to have the best and highest benchmarks.

well i want to buy a pro. But i dunno i dunno if you'll have this feeling but when i buy a graphics card i just have this annoying feeling that makes me want the best quality. I pretty much always have a top of the line card.....but is the picture quality that much better by how much of a margen. I just wanna know because i probably will end up with the 9800 because of this feeling i have...

the picture quality will be exactly the same, the only difference is performance

12 fps.

But really, we can't just say how many frames you'll gain by jumping to the 9800 Pro. Go read some reviews... they should give you a good idea of what the 9800 can do. I side with the others, though, in that the 9700 will do everything you want it to do.

Can't go wrong with a 9700np or pro. My np is running at 400/320 without any volt mods yet. Some have done even better with extreme/water cooling. I see it as saving money now for something really great later. R420/PCI Express anyone?

9800 pro, if you don't have enough for it, then wait, no point in buying a slighly cheaper inferior version

Heres how it will work. You get a 9800 Pro for $360 and you HAVE a 9700 Pro with a 380/340 clock.

You get a 9700 np with 2.8 ns ram for $200. You overclock it to 380/340 and have the same thing (maybe like 5 FPS slower) for $160 less.

This is assuming your an overclock. 380 core isn't hard and 340 ram on 2.8 ns ram is very doable.

If you want to throw a bunch of money out for the sure thing or the possiblility of getting a 9800 Pro to 425 core then go for it, but if you want to save a load of cash then its pretty easy to do.

ps a lot of 9700 cores go above 380, as well as have 2.8ns ram that do better then 340 (x2 680).

The things the 9800 pro has over the 9500/9700 is the pixel and vertex shader 2.1, hyper z III+, DX9++, 2nd generation cinematic architecture and "turbo charged performance". You could probably get the core up to 440 on stock cooling too and the memory up to 760. But go with whatever you REALLY want and what you'll be happy with. Definately do some research on it.
