Unhappy Help! Monitor Fubared!

After just finnishing a long and arduous mod, i hook my system back up to find that my monitor (hp 21inch) Is flickering and shaking on the bottom left hand side of the screen (and only there). This happpens during post and loading windows.

Once in windows, the flicker continues UNLESS the refresh rate is set to 60hz Anything higher, and it comes back.

Oddly enough, when i conect the monitor to my laptop, it only flickers during windows boot, and will accept any refresh rate.

Also, the monitor does not mind high resolutions ?!?

What on earth could be going on?

Ive tried degauss and just powering the monitor on and off to no avail.

It may be your video card.

I'm going to bite the bullet, too! President Obama ordered the cabinet to cut $100 million from the 3.5 trillion federal budget. I'm so impressed by this sacrifice that I have decided to do the same thing with my personal budget. I spend about $1,000 a month in household expenses, but it's time to get out the cutting axe. I'm going to cut my spending at exactly the same ratio! It looks like instead of spending $1,000 a month, I'm going to have to cut that number by three cents. Yes, I'm going to have to get by with $999.97, but that's what sacrifice is all about. I'll just have to do without some things, that are, frankly, luxuries – three cents worth. Is there anything near the corner that's having problems such as a pump or a fan? If it goes away at 60Hz and only 60Hz, it sounds like a problem related to the wiring in your house (if you're in the US, Canada, or another place with 60Hz power). Try moving the monitor around and see if it goes away.

Yes, Carnil is right... Little things such as Speakers (powered ones), desk lamps and even phone chargers can make your screen wobble, in the method you described.

I will try that when I get another person around to help me move it (weighs 75lbs, and is too big to get a grip on).

However, Its been in the same place for about a year. I did switch water pumps and added cold cathodes, so those could be it.

Edit and update:

I forgot about my new water chiller. I know phase change compressors run at similar rates to monitors (60-80hz). So, I moved the computer to the opposite end of the desk and things got better- but it still happens. Since I really have no where else to put my computer- any sheilding that I could put between them to stop the interference?

Try putting a metal box (aluminum foil might work) around the compressor and running a wire (or, again, possibly a strip of aluminum foil) from it to some bare metal on your computer case. This will give you a basic grounded shield around the compressor.

When i turn on my stereo [since it sits beside my monitor], it makes the screen flicker. It's set at 75Hz. I moved my stereo to my other table on the other end of the room, and the monitor was fine.

you could put it all on a UPS, and then shiels them in metal boxes that ae grounded. that should solve it! err only the comp on the ups... my mistake up there

A UPS will only protect against noise coming through the power lines, and then only if it's a line conditioning UPS. The interference nealric's describing is traveling through the air, thus the need for putting shielding around the compressor.
