Power Supply On During Buidling Of A new Computer


What Happens If I left a PSU On while building a computer??

what do you mean by on?

As in the computer is running

Or as in, the power switch on the power supply is on.

For the former, obviously you have major issues- Otherwise their shouldnt be a problem- its not a good idea though.

It really depends on what you mean by on, if the motherboard and all the accessory components are powered on and you just start pulling out components that would be detrimental. However if you left the ps on with no connection to the motherboard and built your system it would be ok, but not a great idea. If you inserted the powersupply connector last and the motherboardpowered up then you probably would not have any problems.

If you've got a switch on the PSU that turns it physically off, but leave it connected, then that's usually okay, and because it leaves the ground connected, may save you from static zappage.
