some question on USB optical mouse!

recently i just switch from my trusty ps/2 mouse to new logitec USB optical mouse. the problem is, it won function in my RH7.3 with kernel 2.4.19. i try to edit the XFConfig-4 file as told by other website, but it still can't! i found that RH did recognized this mouse and it had been "mount" on /dev/input/mice. but when i cat this file and see whether it got some respond...huh....nope!! what's wrong with this mouse? it does work on other pc(window)! can anyone help me on this??

Few quick things;
1. Is USB support activated in your kernel?

I use a M$ usb optical mouse and it lights up during boot (USB activated) the XF86Config-4 protocol settings are for ImPS/2 mouse on a 2.4.18-5 kernel.

not sure for that! i had check this out! if not i had to recompile the kernel again! thanks for the input!
