Unhappy Color calibration on LCDs? Help needed!

I bought an analog Hyundai Q17 17" LCD from excaliberpc after reading the fanastic review that Tomshardware gave it. Well, it arrived today and I set it up side by side with my old Samsung 172T (wanted to replace it 'cos of ghosting) and sure enough, there was almost no more ghosting BUT I have this huge new issue that really bugs me: color.

I guess I've been too pampered by my Samsung color quality. Colors on the new Q17 look a little faded with a pinkish tint to it. Tomshardware claims that color quality on the Q17 look just as good as any CRT once its calibrated, and they even provided a few *.icm files for download. How do you actually use them? Are there any programs out there that can help calibrate the color?

Thanks guys!

your monitor should have a color temp setting. my benq flat panel has like 3-4 settings with a manual adjustment as well.

.icm files are color calibration files. Your video driver should support them; look around under the "advanced settings" section of the display properties control panel.

I've tried changing that but even after hitting the "apply" buttun I couldn't really see any noticable difference.

changing temperatures should be very noticeable.

I believe I've tried that, too. both configurations (6500K & 5000K)look rather off. One has a pinkish tint to everything and the other one has a blue tint and I simply couldn't set it manually to anything better.

it doesn't come with software like the 172t to calibrate color? I would keep the 172t (I love mine). If you read an older version of the review of the iiyama with the same panel as the q17 (that is also in the comparison), it doesn't get nearly as high praise. THG confused the hell out of me with this review. A year ago this panel is too blue to look natural and now its perfect?

Nope. All it came with was a CD with the manual, drivers and a callibrated color scheme. nothing like my Samsung 172T.

I've noticed that most 172T don't seem to be having (serious) ghosting issues while I do. Do you get ghosting on yours when playing FPS games?

When I play ut2003 I can see the screen blurring, but it's nothing unbearable. It doesn't stop games from being playable. Are you using dvi or analog? I'm on dvi.

Yeah. I'm on DVI. All in all, I still prefer color fidelity to response time. I guess I'll just have to sell this Q17 and wait till the Samsung 172X comes out later this year.

It'll kick ass
