does your isp have to suport linux to be able to use linux to get on the internet

What kind of connection are we talking about, broadband or dialup? Some connections are really easy to set up (just tell it to use DHCP), while others require more configuration.

Dialup would be harder to get to work than broadband (DSL/Cable).

You might not get official technical support... but most people don't have problems. Might be good to keep a Windows install handy just in case you do run into issues.

I am talking about dial up. The thing is that i was using a free isp service that for some reason stoped working and i am trying to find another one but i have to be carful because i do not have windows so i don't want to pay for an isp that doesnt work

Usually "free" ISPs finance themselves by showing ads to their customers. Those ad-programs are almost always windows only

any respectable big name dialup ISP (Msn ect..) will support it fine. However it may be a bit tricky to set up in linux. I havent touched a modem in yrs so i dunno
