Question 10,000 rpm vs. 7,200 rpm

Is a 10,000 rpm hard drive really that much faster than a 7,200 rpm hard drive? Considering that both are SATA. In other words, would it be worth the extra money for a 10,000 rph hard drive.

Yes they are faster, how much depends on your definition of fast. The Raptors have a 5.4ms seek time where the fastest 7200 drives are around 8ms at best. This is where you will see the speed the most. The throughput is faster as well but again, it is the seek times that will make you notice it is faster.

yes they are faster. the higher the rotational speed the better. it's the same theory as with CDROM's. faster spindle speed means quicker seek times.

I can notice the speed between 10K and 7200, but depends on how much the money is worth to you .
