Should I get a new pc?

I am thinking of buying a P4 2.8C and will not be changing or carrying out any major updation on it for atleast 3 yrs.
I have read that intel has finished off its northwood line of processors with the latest 3.2Ghz processor and they will be coming up with a new processor later this year.
So shall I buy the computer or wait and watch for the new processors?
I dont want my pc to get outdated in a couple of years after buying it (agreed that will depend upon how rapidly the technology progresses) but its in the general case?

Also the Mobo should be MSI 865 PE Neo FS2R or asus p4p800 deluxe?
Please help.

it really depends on the system you got right now,i have a P4 2.2 and its a WILLy, but i definitly upgrade it with intels new pentium line there is no point really for me to buy a northwood so close to relaese of the new INTEL processors

Well you could wait a couple of months and then decide if you want one of the new ones or a Northwood.. Intel will probably release the new models at the same time as their price cut so to wait a bit would be a smart move either way I reckon..

Thanks for your reply guys.
I currently have a P2 350Mhz with 128mb SDRAM and 20GB HDD.
I want to build my new sysytem mainly for gaming but other programming tasks will be also done.
Any idea where can I read about the upcoming processors or nearly when they are going to be out?

If your want a new system mainly for gameing, spend 2/3 the money you would on an intel setup and get an amd setup, overclock it and use it for two years, if you do the math, a cheaper upgrade more often is better then a high cost / new technology upgrade once every 3 - 4 years.

Actually you won't save that much... you will only save on motherboard and cpu and if you are buying the highest end AMD cpus you will hardly save anything.

I would just search the net on the new cpus, check out Athlon 64 .. www.anandtech.com and www.tomshardware.com has alot of info on stuff like that i think.
