hehe knew that would get someones attention

anyways which series is the first ( or cheepest) to start using all 8 pipes? is it 9700 or 9800? ( if possible will a 9600 or 9700 do it with some kind of mod?)

9700, the other 4 on the 9500np can be activated but don't always work properly. The 9600 series can't be modded to anything, it's a different card, a slower card with major o/c ability but still is a good budget card.

I thought the 9500pro had 8 pipes and that is what distinguishes it from the 9500np which has 4 pipes?

Correct...the 9500 Pro is the cheapest card with 8 pipelines of rendering goodness :D

koooll thanks for the replies
is the 9800 pro the only one with a 256 bit path ( im kinda confused on this cause i thought bit path was determined by pipel;ines)

oh yeah, forgot about the 9500pro, my bad, the 9500pro is lacking the 256-bit memory interface tho, the 9700np and above all have 8 pipes and 256-bit memory interface

so basicaly i should probly just get a 9700 and not mod anything if i dont have to worry about cost.

can a 9700 non pro be modded to pro or is that only the lower boards?

All you would have to do is overclock the GPU and memory on a 9700NonPro to make it a 9700 Pro
The 9500's are the only mentioned cards where the non-pro and pro have actual differences in the way they work. The 9500NonPro has 4 pipes disabled and possibly damaged. Therefore it is what I would consider "different" from the 9500Pro. The 9700Pro however is just a higher clocked 9700nonpro.
Wow, did that make sense?

yeah got , it so basicaly OCing a 9700 non pro can save me lots of money and possibly reach 9800 pro performance with a good cooling solution right

Possibly, yea. Though it may reach stock 9800 Pro performance, it definatly wont overtake overclocked 9800 Pro performance.
