thoroughbred or Palomino

I got a XP 2000 processor and from wat I saw on the price list that I got it on it was a thoroughtbred but know I found out the the thoroughtbred's multiplier is unlocked and myne is locked.

I would like to know if the thoroughtbred's multiplier is unlocked and is there a utillity that I can use to check wat processor I have.

What is the stepping of your chip? You should be able to tell by the stepping if you have a tbred or pally.

The multiplier is unlocked on all Tbreds, however some motherboards (especially older ones) may not allow you to change the multiplier.

The best way to tell which you have is to look at the chip. If the CPU codes are written on the DIE, then it is a Palomino. If the CPU codes are written on a black label then it is a Tbred. You can also use the following code rule: DMT3C is a Palomino, and DLT3C/DUT3C are both Tbreds.

A check you can do from within Windows is to check your default CPU voltage (meaning that you have not changed the voltage via the BIOS or mobo jumpers). 1.75 volts is Palomino, anything less than that is Tbred.

I think the CPU-Z program will also tell you which chip you have.

1.65 volts would be a DUT3C Tbred.

What mobo do you have? And what have you tried to change the CPU multiplier to?

Use the proggy linked to in my sig (red link) It will tell you if u have a Palomino or TbredA or TbredB. Every Tbred (both A and B) are unlocked, so if urs is locked then it may be either ur motherboard or the CPU being Palomino.

Yep it is the motherboard piece of #@!$. My motherboard has got onboard display and I think if they block the multiplier with onboard display motherboards. So I will get one of the nforce motherboards soon that should solve the problem.
