Angry Nforce 2 on NF7 1.1 and USB 2.0 problems :@

OK, just got myself a nice USB-HDD link tool (so I can plug my HDD into a USB port) and the thing started to crap out on my.

Now at first I thought it was the unit as its non brand from ebuyer UK. But then on a retest I plugged it into my USB 1.1 hub by mistake and it didnt crap out on the large files. (I didnt notice it was usb 1.1 until I noticed the timer on the copy screen).

Now I also have a sony NET MD player that uses USB 2.0 and this also appears to crap out when using pure 2.0, but when through the hub its prefect (a few seconds longer in this case).

So whos problem is this and what can I do as 30GB on USB 1.1 is a long time.???

(for those looking at the abit forum, I am Apocalypse and this is an exact copy of the post I amde there)

Couple of questions...

1. What bios are you running?
2. Which drivers are you running?
3. Did you install XP SP1 before installing the drivers?
Per nVidia:
--Installation Notes--
Windows XP users must install Service Pack 1
prior to attempting to install this package. Failure
to do so will result in the inability to support USB 2.0.

Hope this helps. If not, more info might help us.

What case are you using?

This is a firewire issue in the Thermaltake Xaser III, but you might want to double check you USB pinouts in your computer.

No problem with the case.

I am using Bios 16 (the one before this latest)
I installed SP1 before anything else (I may reinstall windows as a last resort)
I am running the drivers that are on nvidias site after uninstalling the new ones they recalled.

It could be the USB chipset if it’s a NEC (code on chip “D720100AGM”) it had problems with stability and would peak out just a bit over 400Mbps and the drivers in XP don't work well with them (if it is this chip I can send you the good drivers)
