so i downloaded the UT2k3 dedicated server for linux. The file's name is 2003-lnxded-2225.tar.tar and when i try to un tar it, it won't work. I'm rather new to linux and only know basic commands atm and wanted to play around with this.

anyhow, i tried tar -x and tar -xf and none seemed to work.

can anyone help a linux newb? :)

it´s probably compressed (usually with gzip) as well.

try "tar -xzvf 2003-lnxded-2225.tar.tar"

If it is compressed with bzip2, another compression method, use
"tar -xjvf 2003-lnxded-2225.tar.tar"

tar

There's also a grapical app called ARK that those unfamiliar with linux may find comforting to use. Its usually installed by default in most distros running gnome or KDE, I think.
