Will corsair XMS pc3200C2PT work in dual channal mode?

ive heard that only the low latency series form corsair will work in dual channal mode on nforce 2 otherboards, such as the abit nf7-s rev2, which i plan to get. however, a gig of it is $75 more expensive than the C2PT. will a matched pair of twinx C2PT work in dual channal on an nforce2 mobo, or would i have to get low latency. ive asked this before on message boards, but people would blindly say "yea itll work" when in consumer reviews i read that people have been having problems. can anyone clarify this for sure?

It will work. Putting ram in dual channel will work if you have the ram in the dual channel dimm slots. If both of your sticks are the same it should work just fine. The ram companies that try to sell you "special dual channel ram" are just using marketing techniques to make it seem as if you need to spend more money for their stuff.

For the official answer, try the Corsair support forum

If you ask what you should buy, you'll get the standard answer, but if you say 'I've bought a matched pair of twinx C2PT .....' they will tell you if you can manage it.

When they say 'Won't work in Dual channel mode' they mean at the specified latency settings, ie CAS 2.

People have done it, but I don't know if it's gauranteed or just luck and overvolting.

Yeah basically everything I've read sayz that Corsair XMS pc3200c2pt will work just fine in a dual channel motherboard, so long as it is matched in size and pefromance to the other stick.

What this twinx stuff is all about is if you read Corasir's specs on its memory sticks they specify that the PC3200C2 will run at 200mhz with 2-3-3-6-1T timings with only one stick installed in the system. When you install more than one stick corsair dosen't gaurntee those latency settings and you may need to run at higher volts or more conservitive settings to get it to work correctly.

On the other hand the twinx sticks are a matched pair that is gaurnteed to work with two sticks installed at those latencies. So with buying two PC3200C2PT sticks you may not get them to run at 2-3-3-6-1T in dual mode whereas you Twinx sticks will work at their specified settings.

The reason why you may have to increase the latency settings etc is that the more memory sticks you install in a system the less tollerent the system becomes to marginal equipment. In other words when you stick two sticks of memory you increase the load on the address amps on the chipset and other componets lowering the signal to noise ration on the bus. Componets that were working at their limits before may be pushed over the edge with addition of the additional noise, capacitance, and drop in voltage.
