ABIT BIOS BEEP CODES

Basic Beep Codes for ABIT AWARD BIOS Motherboards
  1. No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board
  2. One beep - board is working fine
  3. One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU
  4. 1 short(Beep) System booting is normally
  5. 2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error
  6. 1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR
  7. 1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error
  8. 1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error
  9. 1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error
  10. Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly
  11. Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem
  12. A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages
  13. Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

Thanks to Paul Howland for providing the information

I'm happy that it has helped you. Do you guys need a BIOS List for the NF7 - S boards? Just let me know which BIOS rev to base it on.

keep in mind, no beep at all might mean you didnt connect the speaker header correctly.

my card seems to be finicky about the orientation when inserted in slot, shutting down and lightly touching the gpu heatsink or the card then restarting would resolve this.

...or that your BIOS chip is corrupted. That's what happened to me (for the NF7-S that is).

Hey Ludovico, your sig says 12.5x200 (2535mhz). Uhm, that doesn't make sense... fix it?

Thanks, the beep code pointed me directly to my VGA card instead of doing the trail and error troubleshooting.

Probably RAM related.

this would have help out two days ago when after installing a new zalman cooler on my graphics card and setting up some wires I came one with "beeps" #1 and #10 and yes was one of the dimms that slightly off, took about one hour to figure it out (I almost disassembled my case to check since I tought that was a bad cable connection or that I had chiped my gpu when installing the cooler)

now when I can I will print this one out (was used to my epox 88 debug leds)

I had a power outtage last night which claimed my comp...I have a two-tone siren on power-up. I have checked the HDD, RAM, and video card in another comp and they work fine. I can only assume that the two-tone siren is telling me my cpu or motherboard is toast...although the cpu does get hot on boot without the HS, so this may be an indication that it is still operational. Either way, I just wanted to add another possible meaning to the siren beep...

I'd the same problem b/c I didn't have a CPU fan hooked up (on water cooling). I went into the BIOS and had to turn off the beep, and wallah.

I've got an ABIT KN8-Ultra motherboard, and recently I changed PSU to a Corsair HX-530. Now I get 1 short low-pitched, and then 1 long high-pitched beep during POST, then the computer boots. I've checked the manual and several sites with no success as to what this means, could it be the same thing as the two-tone siren described in the original post?

Computer runs fine otherwise.

Does the CPU header have a fan plugged into it? I remember my QuadGT gave me problems like that.

UPDATE: The boo-beeeeep sound I got apparently was because I had turned on the "Power Down when CPU FAN fail" option. I turned it off, and now I get the regular beep.

So, 1 short low and 1 long high means that the Power Down at FAN FAIL option is enabled in the PC Health Status section of the BIOS.
