Is this a good card? Im gonna be running BF1942, Raven Shield, and Americas Army, and i was wondering if this card will be any good for those games? Im not going to be playing doom 3 of half-life 2 so i dont need top of the line stuff but will that card run it fine? My current geforce 2 MX400 runs them fine but im looking for a little more performance. So any opinions welcome.

its a tad slower than a gf4ti4200, same as my radeon 8500. if all you play is 1024x768 with no aa or af then that card will be fine. you can get them on sale for 70$ or less so i wouldnt pay more than that for it. if its closer to 100$ you can find a ti4200 in that range that would suit you better.

the game i play most is gta vice city and it looks fine on my 8500 at 1024x768, and battlefield 1942 looks pretty good too, but i didnt play that enough to give you am honest answer as to quality. americas army my brother played fine on a gf4mx420 so im sure a 9100 would play it fine

You are wrong, I was thinking the same thing about "Radeon 9100 = Radeon 8500" a while ago. Until I got one for my buddy. It was a Radeon 9100 128MB from newegg, and it is only 250/200 stock. I have one original ATI built Radeon 8500 64MB, it is 275/275 stock. Such big differences, how can you say they are the same card?

That Radeon 8500 can get a little over 10k on 3Dmark2001SE with a P4 [email protected] with 512MB PC3200, and that Radeon 9100 only can get around 8700 with a Barton 2500+ @ 2200MHZ with 1GB PC2700.(both overclocked to max)

As for gaming, Battlefield 1942 runs perfect on both, so there isn't any problem.

A Geforce4 Ti4200 does outperform a original Radeon 8500 by 20%~30% in benchmark, but the image quality isn't as good. I would recommand a Radeon 9500PRO if your budget is below $200, or Radeon 9700PRO if it is $300.

just my 3 cents

they are the same core. my le came 250/250, some are 250/275 others are 230/230. bad ones are 230/200, and the horrible crucial one is 250/166. but you can get buil;t by ati ones that do the 275/275 of a retail 8500. different clock speeds dont mean different cards, just that some of the cheaper companies use lower quality parts

So does anyone know where i can find a true higher clocked Radeon 8500LE/9100?

8500LE/9100 < regular 8500 built by ATI

which I think ATI are not making 275/275 (regular) 8500 any more. All the LE are lower/cheaper ones compare to the original Radeon 8500. So are the 9100s. The "LE" almost mean Lower Edition. I just do not see any original Radeon 8500 anywhere for a while. I got mine from newegg over one year ago.

That is why I suggested something better, such as 9500PRO. If your budget is a problem, then get a Geforce4 Ti4200. All the so many 8500LE/9100 just cannot be sure what speed you will get, and it seems none will be as good as the original Radeon 8500. Correct me if I am wrong.

the Transcend 64mb 9100 at newegg is clocked at 250/250 because it's retail, for $71 including shipping, and can probably be overclocked to over 8500 specs of 275/275

8500LE/9100 is supposed to be clocked at 250/250 and if you buy a retail version, it is guaranteed

The Visiontek 9100s are also clocked at 250/250 and I have seen them at Best Buy before for $79.

"A Geforce4 Ti4200 does outperform a original Radeon 8500 by 20%~30% in benchmark"

um no, more like 10% at best. He should probably get a 64mb ti4200, those can be had on ebay and used for around $70 and will eat any radeon, especially in 3dmark by about 1k marks, maybe even more depending on overclock of course. Dont ever pay over $70 for any radeon8500, I paid $60 and mine is a radeon8500 pro, it supposedly comes at 300/300 and should do like 325/325. perhaps even 350/350 with a v mod. those are the ones people get 13k+ marks on :)

"radeon 8500 pro"
never heard off it i thoguht there wasnt one either.
I played bf-1942 and americas army on this video card works decently this is with AA/AF on tho.

I can play Americas Army at 1280*1024 with all the settings maxed with my 8500 128mb clocked at 275/275. It's rare that I fall below 20fps, but it does happen. If you don't want that happening, I suggest 1024*768.

Also the Ti4200 is a bit faster, I would have purchased it if I could.

There's no such thing as an 8500 pro. Unless a reseller overclocks and renames it.

mine comes with 3.3ns ram if that helps, this makes it a pro at 300/300 :)

no, that makes it an overclocked 8500

the pro version cards we speak of is sold as a pro (9700pro, 9800pro), a 9700np clocked to 9700pro speeds is not a 9700pro but an overclocked 9700np, a 9800np clocked to 9800pro speeds is not a 9800pro but an overclocked 9800np, there was never an 8500pro therefore you can't even say you have an 8500 clocked to 8500pro speeds even if you have it clocked to 500/500, you simply have an overclocked 8500

yeah, the 275/275 original Radeon 8500 can do 300/300 no sweat with stock cooling, but it is still a Radeon 8500 :) So is yours.

The two in your link aren't good. At the bottom, it shows 64MB one is 250/230, 128MB one is 250/200. Try some other place other than these two.

I have seen the visionteks at Tiger for 49.99 after rebate $20 rebate.

I think they hit you up pretty hard on shipping, but still a good deal.

this visiontek linked by TimWest looks very good

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=transcend+9100

this one at newegg is also good for $71 shipped

they are both 250/250, remember retail boxed means they have to use regular specs so as long as you buy a retail boxed one it's fine

did you want a built by ATI card? i don't think it's so important, visiontek is a good company and i haven't heard any complaints about transcend either

Yeah, but i was wanting a 128MB card since it would last a bit longer, are their any 128MB versions with 250/250 clock speed?
