i only have one partition taking up half my hd and i want to make another partition for the rest of it . i tryed to use fdisk but for some reason it won't write the partition table are there any other tools that will do this

i already have red hat installed on half of my partition but i want to make another partition for the second half then format it and mount that partition.

fdisk, cfdisk, or parted should work fine for that. Does fdisk give a reason why it can't write to the partition table? Remember that you have to hit 'w' when your done making changes to have fdisk write those changes.
