What kinda temps to expect with 10,000btu/hr AC?

I just aquired an AC window unit from work, I know a few of you may remember me posting a while ago about an AC unit I got from work that my wife made me install in the livingroom window after I got it working. Well... They had another one that they were throwing away, and it turns out that the only thing wrong with it was the temperature probe. Once I disabled this switch, it started blowing out MONDO amounts of arctic level coolness. I am planning on using this one (and wife has agreed this time) for finaly hooking up a Phase-Changed setup.
What I'm looking for from you guys is an idea of what kind of temps I can expect to get if I convert my current W/C settup into a P/C setup (ie. imersing the evap coils into a res just slightly bigger than the evap itself) or is there a better way to utilize this 10,000btu/hr rated AC unit?

well. thats a pretty big unit. most people use stuff like 2000-7000btu for chillers. and i think you can go a little less than that for direct die's. the problem your gonna get is all those extra btu's equaling only a few degrees colder than a unit half that size.
so...yours will be louder, suck more energy, and take up more space than one half the size for only a few degrees.

doable? yes. overkill. yeh probably.
but if thats all you got i would use it.

I know about all the anit-freeze type addatives that I would need to add to the water. I guess I didn't prase my question very well (I was half asleep) What I'm wondering most of all is how hard is it to convert a Window-AC unit into a direct-die phase-change cooler? (any links?)

Just remember, I have no formal knowledge about HVAC, my expertise is in electronics, and water-cooling right now.

try this web site http://www.refrigerationbasics.com/

Also browse around this forum http://www.phase-change.com There are some great stickies and articles that you can use.

I personally would use the 10000 btu unit for direct die. Like previously said it will be load and suck a lot of juice for nothing. It could be used for chilling water quite easily but then agian lot of noise and power for not much. Try and find a less powerful unit. maybe switch the one in the window if it is smaller for this one.

they're the same size, but the noise won't be an issue. With where my PC sits, I actually plan on mounting the unit outside the house, and drilling a hole in the side of the house to run the line in, right into the back of my case.

i dont think that would be a very good idea. cause your talking about hard lining (copper tubing) from the outside of your house inwards.
Problem #1: costly tubing going that far.
Problem #2: having to get pipe bender and make all those bends
Problem #3: not flexible

your whole unit is gonna be pretty small (think 3x2' roughly). i dont think you would need to put something that small outside.

hope that helps.

laters.

first of all, please read and take your time, thats the best rule

ac units are not design for low temp, just look around and get a fridge compressor of 1/4, it will be very small and you will need to touch it to know that is running, this also will make it possible to move it around as desire

but if you are set on using the ac comprossor, then it would be best to put it outside,

Problem #1: costly tubing going that far.
Problem #2: having to get pipe bender and make all those bends
Problem #3: not flexible

problems listed by tgp, not really an issue, you can get 25feet rolls of copper of 1/4" and 3/8" in a warehouse of refrigeration, for about 6-10 each, a pipe bender is not expensive, and since you are putting it out side, you won't be moving it around so flexibility is not necessary,

also don't take it out side of the box of the ac, use that so you can use the condensor and the fan to cool the condensor and compressor, it will run very hot, air will be a plus and help temps a bit,

well good luck and keep us posted, and almost finish with my system, wanted to a few goodies into it before I finish her
