Hey I'm building a computer and need a new cpu, video card, motherboard, memory, and case for around $500. What is the best cpu I can get for the least amount of money. A 1700, 2500, or 2800? I'm thinking an OC 1700. I think I'm going to get an asus nforce2 and a radeon 2600 pro. Any suggestions on all of this and maybe cooling for it?

get the abit nf7-s with a sk7 and smart fan II and yeah go for the 1700+ t-bred B and overclock it what radeon is that ?? have u made a typo lol :)

and go for whatever ram u want best to go for pc3200 if your overclocking :)

Well Abit NF7-S 110
XP2500+ 90
512 PC3200 100
Case w/GOOD PSU 100
Radeon 9600pro 150
Good HSF 50

that's 500, You may be able to find a used 9700np for 200 and get a XP1700 chip, but make sure the 1700 is a Tbred B...also checkout the XP1800 Tbred B's they may be the new replacement.

*edit* you may be able to save some cash by getting an Abit NF7 (no "S") if you already have a good soundcard (good as in Audigy, M-Audio, or questionably TBSC)

Also here is a good case:
http://www.directron.com/sf561.html

checkout www.bestbyte.net (This place has incredible deals TT smart fan II's for 8 bucks and shipping is 5 flat unless you get a monitor or something huge) and www.svc.com for fans and rounded cables and such if you need them, also don't skimp on the PSU.
