my board- msi k7t pro-2a
chip- tbird 1 ghz

situation- it'll post the chip speed, 'n ram, but than will stop, I can't enter the bios, it won't go on to do the ide channels, I don't know what to do, any suggestions?

Strip it down to the bear minimum of parts, for example ram, cpu and vid card. If you still have a problem try swapping out parts and testing. Using this method you should be able to find out whats going wrong. Could be a power supply problem or maybe your pc is overheating (maybe there is a BIOS shutdown temperature or maybe just overheating in general). If you think its too hot then try reapplying thermal compound and the heatsink. Try artic silver 3 thermal compound...its much better than the garbage that comes with most heatsinks. Good Luck!
