ViaAqua Pump ok to start with?

I'm going to make a water cooling system in the near future. Will start with just colling the CPU, then the GPU and chipset.

I came across some cheap (on sale) ViaAqua pumps at this site.

Are these pumps ok to use? I don't want to get carried away with the flow rate, so which one would be ok for this type of setup? Are these pumps submersable only?

That's where I got mine...I epoxied the impeller cap and all the barbs in when I did it though...the thing's structure does not hold well (I cracked the body putting the output barb in) ...

Most people normally get the 1300. Its proven to be a great pump for many levels of usage.

yes it's a good starting pump, it's what I started with, but I wouldn't include it in your long term(over 1 year)plans.

I ordered the Quiet One 1200. With the coupon it was about $25. I liked that one because both input and output were 1/2" and stated that could be used inline. The Via Aqua said they had to be submersed. I guess the Vias need the water to help cool them off and benefit pressure wise from a sump. If I remember correctly the Quite One pumps were designed to circulate water through the Lifeguard canister filters which means they would need to deal well with back pressure.
