Upgrading laptops?

No reason why you couldn't. Laptops are notoriously problematic to upgrade though due to proprietaty parts. I'd imagine upgrading a 1600 mobile palmino to a thoroghbred core mobile chip[ might cause some problems and a bios flash might not be availible. Do you know the core of your chip?
 
hmm im not sure about the newest laptops cause i dont usualy pull em apart but as far as i know they have the CPU soldered(i cant spell) to the motherboard hence needing to buy a new mother/CPU together. i have an old pentium laptop think its 800mhz or something and i know it was soldered on (once again cant spell)
 
Yes, but nowadays most laptops have zif sockets both P4 and AMD laptops use standard zif sockets.
