Upgrading laptops?

No reason why you couldn't. Laptops are notoriously problematic to upgrade though due to proprietaty parts. I'd imagine upgrading a 1600 mobile palmino to a thoroghbred core mobile chip[ might cause some problems and a bios flash might not be availible. Do you know the core of your chip?

You should be able to, in most laptops I've seen now they have 462 ZIF Socket. Just look for bios updates and check the board for voltage adjustment.

hmm im not sure about the newest laptops cause i dont usualy pull em apart but as far as i know they have the CPU soldered(i cant spell) to the motherboard hence needing to buy a new mother/CPU together. i have an old pentium laptop think its 800mhz or something and i know it was soldered on (once again cant spell)

Yes, but nowadays most laptops have zif sockets both P4 and AMD laptops use standard zif sockets.

Zero Insertion Force, as in you do not have to force the cpu in, it should just fall into place with the lever up

most modern cpus such as, Athlons, P4s, Socket P3s, C3s all use zif sockets
