can a bad mother board some how currupt a hdd

the same way a high FSB on a non-locked mobo can. The data is being transferred so fast that the HD can't keep up, so bits get lost......I don't think it can permenantly ruin a HD, but a bad mobo can certainly corrupt files (and thus force a reformat).

but can a mobo BREAK a hdd

like permiently?

i just think its weird that my mobo and my hdd went bad at the exact same time

power supply checks out fine

all other components are working fine
