How do I flash the BIOS ?

I ordered a newegg refurb 8RDA (1.1) and installed it yesterday and runs like a champ with a 2100 OC'd 2171MHz. I checked the BIOS and it's from way back in April 03 and the latest BIOS update at the EPOX website is 8-27-03 and I downloaded it no problem.

Now here comes my problem.
I read the manual and it says load the downloaded .EXE file on a floppy disk and then proceed to etc. etc. etc. which I understand and can do. Problem is the download was a .bin file format (not .EXE) and I can't open it.

I see at the EPOX website there is also a download for the Magic Flash done through Windows instead of DOS but the page won't open so maybe the website is down. Seems like that would be the easy way to do it and if that's the thing to do let me know and I'll just wait for the site to come back up.

Meantime, if you could tell me how to get the BIOS update to download as an .EXE file I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks, OldBird

The bios from Epox should have come with a program AWDFLASH.exe and put it on the disk with the bios. So, use the bootdisk with that file, then run

A:\awdflash.exe "xxxxxxxx.bin"

where xxxxxxxx.bin is the name of the bios. Then the program should ask you what the name of the bios is your going to flash it with, then if you want to save the old bios (not sure if it still asks this or not). Then it will ask you if want to flash to the new bios. Then it tells you whens it done and to reboot the computer.

Talking Had to go to Holland.

I kept looking and went to the Holland website and it told how to put the update on a floppy then reboot while holding down the Alt F2 keys which I did and it worked like a champ. Flashed it and everything went just fine.

Strange the USA website doesn't have those instructions in plain view if at all. Thanks for the come back and we're rockin' on. Love this 8RDA especially since it only set me back $51.00.

Want a 2500 Barton and going to talk to Santa and see if he'll bring me one . . .

Since it was refurb no floppy came with it but everything else did like new in the box.

2100 OC'd 2171MHz. Fast enough for this OldBird.

So the bios .exe you downloaded from Epox didn't come with awdflash? Well, I'm glad that you got it to work. Just curious, where did you get the motherboard for $51?

"So the bios .exe you downloaded from Epox didn't come with awdflash?" No, it downloaded as a .bin file and that's what had me confused. The .bin file is used in conjunction with the Alt F2 keys as I described. Amyway, I did what the Holland site said and all is well. Go there and look at their website and it makes the EPOX USA website look primitave.

I got 8RDA from newegg for $51.00 as a refurb and it came like new in the box with everything, except of course the flash floppy. None of the bracket or IDE cable packets had been opened and no finger prints on the manual or CD. On the edge of the board it says 1.1 and the BIOS was from April-03 it couldn't be more than 5 months old. I realize it doesn't have as good sound as the plus model but I'm not into that and don't need the other goodies the plus has. It's just a stripped down plus model and for $51 bucks that's good enough for me. Hey, it works real good and that's all I ask.

Rainy & dreary here in coastal SC but the temps went down to 65 and we think we're in heaven after all that murderous heat we had for a long time. Thanks for your help and time for a good cold one here. Have a nice week end. OldBird
