I've had my computer for a few months, and want to start pushing it. I'm wondering what sort of performance increase i should expect, and what my limits will probably be. I'm running a XP 2100+ with a decent but not extravagent heatsink and fan.

Currently, i run about 39 degrees. What can I expect to do, and what warnings do you have for me? Any useful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks now for any help I get.

You need to tell us what type of 2100 you have. Read off all the codes that are on the top of the CPU. Otherwise you have a CPU that could do anything from 1800mhz to 2500mhz.

Okay

I've gotten the info

As read on my cpu:
2100 DUT3C JIUHB 0308 UPMW

That may or may not be correct. I think it's right, though.

Great to hear. I've been fooling around a bit, and seem to be pretty stable at 2.02GHz right now. I bumped the FSB up to 160 (it's at 155 right now), and the computer wouldn't boot up.

To answer earlier quesitons:
512 mb ram (2700, i think) running at 310 MHz right now

motherboard: LeadTek WinFast K7NCR18D-Pro

Should I expect much more in the way of performance leaps, or just be happy with the 300 MHz jump I've alredy taken. Thanks again for all your help. This board is great!

All right, nForce2 chipset mobo, you're in business.

You can probably do around 2.3 GHz.

Assuming you're not using a 50 cent power supply,

FSB for PC2700 can do 180ish FSB depending on brand (post full specs if you want help)

so 180ish x 12 or 12.5 multiplier is highest expected speed at maybe 1.8 Vcore.

Of course, it also depends on the brand of heatsink (copper?)

lets start with a good nforce2 board

grab slk-800 or better HSF

and another dimm of pc2700:for dual channel mode:

this will give u the total of about $129.99 i project

take these steps and u'll have one fine running machine
