you probably shouldn't oc a laptop
there isn't much airflow coming from the one tiny fan inside the machine.

just my personal opinion

It's DOUBTFUL that there are any overclocking options in the BIOS of ANY laptop, save for a few using (basically) desktop boards, or PERHAPS something from Alienware or VoodooPC, though I don't know that they do either. You might be able to get something like SoftFSB to work, but like the above post said, it's NOT a good idea. Laptops are way too small these days for "good" cooling. Even a modest computer will make you sweat if it's on your lap. They use heat pipes already, and they run too hot as it is. If it works, it might not work for very long. If you want more performance, see if you can get a P4 for it. Celerons simply aren't good . . . there's nothing one can say to get around that. They're great for the money, and they do some things well, but I've NEVER encountered a Celeron system I didn't absolutely HATE (and I've seen a lot, since I'm a college tech, and students are cheap).

If you do it, it would most likely have to be through something like softFSB, and that might be a little hard (you have to find out what PLL-IC you have, on a desktop you can just open itt up and look). This is not refcommended. I often underclock my laptop to save battery and keep it cooler.

edit: spelling.

def dont OC a laptop.. it'll waste more power and usually they have cooling capacities suited for stock speed.. anymore and you're risking the life of your laptop

Actually 2 ghz and 512 mb of ram is pretty decent, I don't see why you would want a performance increase. The bottle neck is probably the video card. But most laptops do not have replaceable video cards.

I wouldnt oc a notebook either, you want a gaming rig, get a desktop. my notebook I use is 90MHz pentium and works fine for internet and old games like battletank(requires a 286)

Got a 9700pro at stock(wont overclock anyway) Cpu can do 2.4GHz
but ondie controller holds me back. May be able to do 255fsb, will test this.
See below for my game scores!

with 4x aa, 16x af gets me 30-60+ fps
will test other games, most should run 1600x1200

Overclocking a laptop is just plain stupid in most cases...it will:

1. Use up the battary faster.
2. Produce more heat which will degrade the performance
3. shorten the longevity.

I wouldn't want to fry my laptop..

the performance loss due to heat + the performance gain from OCing = less overall performance with a shortened life..

SO DONT OVERCLOCK IT

it runs about the same temp give or take a lil but i think oc'ing it it would burn up which wouldnt be good

I recently bought a laptop. Compaq AMDŽ system, using ATi's 320m chipset with mobile 64MB Radeon graphics. It's still under warranty, so I'm not going to tear into it yet (I've got till this coming December).

So, instead of overclocking I made sure the software and drivers (from the OS down) was tweaked/optimised. I also bought another 256MB of DDR for it. Too bad the 320 IGP uses an integrated memory architecture

But anyhow, my point is:
After I did all this tweaking to Windows XP (like disabling useless services, tweaking registry settings, installing new ATi catalyst video drivers not meant for OEM, and amongst a plethora of other things) I increased the response of the system a significant bit.

Granted it's not burning the benchmarks like an overclocked desktop. But I didn't buy the laptop to benchmark either.

It's tweaked to the point where I can run it on battery mode (decreased clock speeds) and get roughly 4 1/2 hours out of it.

This is all while doing what I need to do with it (being sparing on the HDD and CD-ROM usage), and not being able to tell the difference between battery mode and full on desktop mode @ 1.33Ghz & full FSB. I don't find it too shabby.

My suggestions are these:

**Oh yeah, and don't forget that dimming your LCD display DRAMATICALLY increases battery life.
