Folding

I was reading and didnt know what the heck folding was. hehe
I downloaded the program(after looking up what it was) on my 2ghz machine since I dont use it that often and it runs 24/7 anywayz. Hope it helps. :>

Team 32 hopefully. :)

Great to have you. As far as that folding benchmark, is there somewhere you can go to find out how your number stands? I currently have 4728 and I want to see how that compares to others, especially someone I know with the new AMD 64FX cpu.

Welcome to the team! :D

Make sure to fold for Team 32 (that's us) and once you feel comfortable folding you can twaek it so that it uses "better"* protein simulations.

*More effective use of P4 architecture...

Welcome to the TEAM!!! Since you have it running 24/7, you should set the program shortcut to start with the -forceasm tag and the -advmethods tag. These give you the newest work units and use SSE for the fastest processing power.

Check out the stats to see how well your doing so far here. http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com

Fold on!

Mine says benchmarking but it doesn't show a result.

To see the result you HAVE to have the -verbosity 9 tag along with the -advmethods and -forceasm.

I just set it up and got 6768 as my benchmark on my rig in the sig.

2496 on my Slot A 800 Mhz Folder
1780 on my 1 Gig Athlon

That doesn't make any sense.

By the benchmarks I am starting to think that the Cache size makes a difference. My 800 Mhz Slot A with 512k Cache benches higher than the 1000 Mhz Athlon 256k Cache. I am clocked faster than gungeek for instance but he benches higher with a XP 2500 which I think is a Barton with the 512 at 2.25Ghz while I have a 1700 @ 2.32 Ghz.

Well the extra cache of the barton is typically considered to count for a bit over 100mhz. FSB differences and maybe memory timings could also come into play. Also I have noticed that there is a pretty wide variance in the benchmark from run to run.

Thanks a lot for this information, hopefully my buddy can use this.

I get 3230 and 3408 from the computer in my sig. This seems low considering the CPUs are 2100. Oh yea this is with the linux B client. Any ideas?

Hrm that is weird. My dually (2 procs at just over 2ghz) just got about 6700 on each proc.

Just had an idea. Are you using SSE instructions? (-forceasm flag)
