I need help here!!!!!!!!!<<<<LOOK LOOK LOOK

I need a script that i can install on a computer that after a pre-determined amount of time (say 60 days) will delete a certain folder of files? I need to do this because I am building for a customer who I expect will not honor their commitment to pay me after the machine is delivered? I am looking for something that say 60-90 days later when the computer is rebooted it will format the hard drive and wipe everything clean. This will be a windows 2000 machine. Any suggestions...

or make it where it deletes crucial windows files, so it won't start and they will ahve to come to me for help. dont suggest upfront payment as the deal is they get the pc and they will pay me in a week or two when they "get the money"

Most likely need to make a .bat file. It will be really easy if *.bat scripts can check dates. Otherwise you will need to make a simple program to check for a date. (most likely with C) Then put the program in the startup folder or win.ini.

I am assuming you are going to tell him about it once he pays. But if he doesn't pay, doesn't he still get all the hardware you gave him. Kinda seems like a deal that should put up a bunch of red flags.

Erm, if you have to plan warfare before you make a business transaction, perhaps it would be better to just not do business.

Windows security settings might be able to be set to lock them out with a password after X amount of time... After looking at some of the security settings for XP pro for a minute, it looks like it might be possible, but I would have to play with the settings to see how they behave exactly.

I assume it does this before windows loads so that it can have access to all the files?

Have you considered how this person may feel towards you after this occurs and they think they may lose any and all information they have on the HDD?

I really think this is a bad idea.

It seems like a strange situation, i guess you would just call him up once you got the money and say something like.
"I didn't think you would pay me so i kinda... um yea made a program to... delete everything after a bit of time, so can you go ahead and just delete that file for me, thanks."
And the guy's like

So if you relly want to make sure he gets screwed over you could do somthign like that. but why would he come back to you for help of he just stole it from you? sound like a scam to me i would get th emoney when you give him the comp. If he says no there dont do it its not wotrh all the hardware.

How could you be sure that destroying the knowledge on their HDD will make them come and pay you? If they have in mind not to pay, they wouldn't, and there is nothing you can do about that, if you do not issue an invoice.
You destroy the computer and they just would sell your parts somewhere on ebay, that's all.
I guess you do not want to pay any tax, but then you must face the risk, this all does't sounds like any good deal to me.

I have a better idea, why not put a timebomb in there? This way, if he doesn't pay you, you could injure him as well =). I don't agree with you Aqrhine_tg_xXx because if you are serious about business, you should >make< him pay in advance, and not deliver the system if he didn't.

it's hard to delete files in windows directory when these files are used.

I can help you with this because i wrote a Java and VB script which simply does that . My script does NOT ONLY delete files and folders in your computer BUT it ALSO *CLEAN* windows registry very WELL.

I mean it CLEANS everything which is UNUSED in the computer

BUT i won't give it to you because it is very bad. If they don't pay you upfront, you should not do the work for them and give them their computer.

They can sue you for any malicious program installed without their consent - especially if they had a crucial work file which was very important to the company they work for. Don't do it. If it's going to take them a week or two to get the money, hold onto the computer for a week or two.

use a thermite bomb to melt the computer after 30 days . lol, j/k

I would draw up some type of document for him to sign about payment and if he doesn't sue him in small claims court and see if you can get it on his credit report OR make him pay up front!

Heh this is a lawsuit waiting to happen man. If you are this worried about it then you should make a contract that you need to be paid in X amount of time etc etc. Something legally binding on them. Deleting someone else's machine is only going to cost you money in the end.

Look up the GetTickCount() function. write a SIMPLE vb program that hangs out in memory.

GetTickCount() counts the number of milliseconds a PC is on. It rolls over to a negative value after 48 Days. because this number is so large, declare it as an unsigned long.

use this negative rollover as your triggering event to delete files.

remember that if you want to use visual basic, it will use a Signed long and roll over after only 24 days.

easy enough. start the program at start up and make sure its not visible in system tray.

infact look up on how to create a systemservice that loads at startup and the guy will probably NEVER KNOW its even loaded.

if you can find the hooks to netscape or IE, you can attach to every email: The person who sent you this email is dishonest--dont do business with him.

uhm.....why are people helping a guy with something that obviously sounds like something that he plans to use on much more than one person. Something like this is considered a malicious program and therefore like someone said, illegal to install without consent.

however, you could write a program that requires a serial key to deactivate, and must be deactivated in a certain time, or it will lock up the system unless the serial key is entered(sort of like installing a trial license enabled software).

He could, also put win XP in there, WITHOUT a cd key, and will only work for 30 days, and he will need the CD key to continue use.
