P4S533 and 2.0a OC problem

Hey all, first post here. I've been doing a lot of research on OC'ing my mobo and cpu combo but still cannot get the cpu to run at 2.6ghz. (133/33 fsb). My specs are:

Asus P4S533 bios 1009
Intel P4 2.0a
2x 512meg Crucial pc2700 cas 2.5

The highest I have taken it is to 2.4ghz, 120/40 cpu/pci freq, cpu/mem ratio is 3:5, and vcore at auto (1.5 I think it stays at). It seems to run stable so far like that even with the ram at ddr400 I do not want to take it any higher than the 40mhz pci frequency. So, I popped it up to 133/33 fsb and set the ratio to 4:5. I have tryed vcore voltages up to 1.7 and the system will never post. For all my testing the ram settings are by SPD (2.5T-4-4-7). Is is hopeless for my cpu to run at 133 fsb? The only thing I found in searching the site was something about a VID pin mod, but that sounds a little tricky to me so I haven't messed with it yet. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

If the system fails to post at a high Vcore, then the cooling should be called into question.... So whats your cooling setup.

i was able to get my 2.0a to 2.66 with my P4-TE back in the day. all i had to was change the divider and raise the voltage. for me cooling was what held me back at first. i used the stock hsf and i could hit 2.4 like you. i picked up a volcano 7+ and it works great.

i have the same board in another system with the 2.0a but i haven't even considered overclocking it since the case i'm using is real cheap and i don't think the no-name power supply could handle it and there are no fans other than the one in the psu.

That's a new one on me. The P4S533 usually does well up to 150 mhz, then craps out. Sounds to me like you may have a non-oc friendly CPU.

Well, I'm going to try a good HSF and see if it works then. If not then I'll just have to see if 2.4ghz is stable in gaming and things.

Ok, I bought a Zalman CNPS7000A and got it installed. I set the fsb to 133/33 and cpu/mem ration to 4:5. Left vcore at 1.5. The system now posts but when it begins to load Windows, I get an error saying that a certain windows system file is corrupt and it halts there. I can set the cpu setting back to default (100/33) and it boots and works fine. I have tried the 133/33 fsb setting with every other vcore option I have up to 1.7. Anything above 1.5vcore and the system craps on bootup, it posts but never gets to the point of starting up the OS. Any other suggestions on this one?

Anyone have some suggestions on this? I can only get it to run stable at 2.3ghz without crashing in games I heard of some vid pin mod on these mainboards but cannot find a link to it anywhere.
