regarding max resolution

i think my monitor can only display a max resolution of 1600x1200. but my graphics card can run in 2048 x 1536. i use a rendering program and i would like to render an image higher than the max resolution of 1600x1200 that is currently allowed. is this possible with changing monitors?

i was thinking maybe i can force the card into it's max resolution regardless. although the screen would not be in 2048 x 1536, the internal program will be and i can render and save an image in a virtual 2048 x 1536?

?

edit; my monitor is a gateway, 21" vx1110-7001532. i think it is a trinitron? does anyone know the max resolution? if it is above 1600 x 1200, why aren't there options for a higher resolution setting?

edit; ok called gateway and they said the max monitor res. is 1856 x 1392. how come i can't access this odd resolution? is it the video card's fault?

EDIT; NEVERMIND I FIGURED IT OUT BY UPDATING THE MONITOR DRIVERS!
