Which CPU should I buy? Help!

Note I'm putting this question in all of the different forum sections so if you guys(gals) want to answer all of these questions great, if not, just number 2 for here. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm new to overclocking and new to these forums and hope someone can help me out with these questions.

I just bought a Vapochill PE and here's what I'm buying next:

1. Abit IC7 Mobo $120 USD
2. P4c 2.8 $265
3. ENERMAX EG651P-VE(FMA). 550W $150
4. CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series,
Platinum Series (Twin Pack) 1GB(2 x 512MB) 2x(64MX64) PC-3700 With Heat Spreaders.
Specifications:
Speed 466 MHz
Organization 2 x 64M x 64
Part number: TWINX1024-3700PT $280

Here's my questions since you guys know waaaaay more than me I'm sure!

1. Is there a better mobo near the same price range that OCs well? Is it worth it to get the (g) version of this Mobo? I don't really have a LAN and I think that's the only difference right?

2. A P4c 2.4 is only $175, that's $90 cheaper than the 2.8, the 2.6 is $210. Is the headroom for OCing the same on these three? What's the better buy with price considerations?

3. The ENERMAX EG465AX-VE (W)FCA. 433W is only $100, a $50 savings. Do I need the 550 or will this work?

4. First, is this the correct BRAND/SPEED for what I'm getting? I've never OCed before and I'm not sure what RAM I need. Also for $70 more I can get this:
CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series,
(Twin Pack) 1GB(2 x 512MB) 2x(64MX64) TWINX1024-4000PT
Speed 500 MHz
Organization 2X64MX6
CAS Latency: 3-4-4-8
Memory type DDR NON-ECC
Part number: TWINX1024-4000PT Platinum Series

Is there a big difference? Should I pay the extra $70?

I'm looking to try and get a 700-800hz OC that runs games stable. Any advice about my parts before I buy them?

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer my questions.

I would get the P4C800-E Deluxe instead of the IC7, maybe IC7 has slightly better voltages but the p4c800 get's better fps and 3dmark points.
maybe 15 fps in Enemy Territory, and 3-500 points in 3dmark 2001se.
The diff between IC7 and IC7-G is the Raid and Gigalan.
With IC7-G you will get 2 raid solutions instead of 1.
0 and 1.
I would go with the PC4000 memory, mostly for fun.
But the XMS PC3700 will proably OC 500-550 mhz with 2.8-3.2 volts.
I would get a 2.6c.
I just love the fsb.
2.4c with 1200 fsb (300x4) is really nice
But the 2.6 and 2.8 will, with no questions, get better MHZ.
2.4c almost always oc between 3.2-3.5.
What cooling will you get? I would get Zalman CNPS 7000CU.
AlCu and Cu is almost no differance, just the looks, maybe a half degree celsius.
But both are real cheap.
The PSU's nice, but I would get a 480w antec trueblue or 430w antec truepower.
But the enermax will be just fine.
Depends on your graphics man. If you're having a radeon9000 you will be fine with a 400w.
If you will have a 9800 maybe you should consider some more power.
But I've seen comps running 9800pro with just a NONAME 300w.
Depends on many things.
Harddiscs, cd players, dvd players etc.
What graphics will u get?

Good luck //Bengan

Edit: Sorry, just saw u meantioned Vapochill PE.
Just ignore my cnps7000 idea.
With Vapochill you may get 3.5-4ghz with a 2.4-2.8c.
I've seen one or two getting 4.05 ghz stable with compressor cooling. with the 2.4c.
Let's just hope for a good sample cpu.

1) I like the Abit IC7, about the only other one I might recommend is the Asus P4C800. The IC7-G has built-in Gigabyte LAN and two more SATA channels, a total of four instead of the normal two. If you get the IC7 and later on need LAN, then just buy a $20 ethernet card.

2) All of the "C" 800 bus CPUs tend to have similar top speeds. The higher end CPUs seems to O/C a tad better on average, but not enough to justify the added expense. Plus, the 2.4C will have a much higher FSB at similar O/C speeds, so that will help with performance.

3) I prefer the Antec True Power line of power supplies.

4) RAM is a tricky subject. I will leave this for the memory section folks to answer. However, it depends a lot on which CPU you buy and what memory ratio you run.

I've seen reviews that had the IC7 doing better in benchmarks. It's close to a toss-up, both have pros and cons. Can't go wrong with either mobo.

Not sure what you mean by 2 RAID solutions. The IC7 still has 2 SATA channels and does allow either RAID 0 (stripe) or RAID 1 (mirror). The IC7-G willl allow RAID 0+1 since it has 4 SATA channels if that's what you mean.

don't know if you were even planning on cooling...but my suggestion is if your trying to save some cash....hold out on the cooling and see if you even need it...overclock your CPU and see how high it will allow you to go...then from there you can check if you really need additional cooling

FlyingNun83, the reason I'm asking all these questions is that I bought a Vapochill PE and am planning on major OCing. If you don't know what a VCPE is, it's a phase change system. Check it out at http://www.asetek.com/default.asp?sh...ntentSection=2 and maybe you'll get one too! Thanks guys.

Damn that'll be a nice system if it ever turns out. You could game and fold at the same time!

wait for the price drop in febuary. The 2.8's will be the price of the current 2.4...I think.

Yeah, I'm going to buy all the other stuff now, get it into the case, then wait until the 26th price drop, order the CPU and plop it in when it gets here. I'm pumped. If you guys ever head over to the Vapochill forums, you'll see guys running 4.2 systems, INSANE! I'm only going for a 2.4c @ 3.2. I think that is enough of a bump for me. If I end up going for one of those 2.8 chips though, I may try and push it to 4.0, just for the heck of it. I really can't tell the diference between 3.0-3.8 though, so I'm not going to push the chip just normal use, just once for bragging rights.... Of course when it's all said and done, I'll post the results here for you guys to check out. X
