Best T-bird?AXIA Core?

Hi, Im looking for a new Athlon to buy for my system. I noticed that most 1.2Gs are unlocked so i might go for that. I am wondering which T-bird would be the best to buy right now. Also whether i should get the 133 or the 100FSB version. I will be running it on a Abit KT7A mobo which supports memory speeds of FSB + 33.

I am also wondering what the hell the AXIA core is... I found a few CPUs like that on the market and they were significantly more expensive...what exaclty does this new core offer?

I think most 1.2 ghz and up are unlocked. If not you can unlock them with a pencil in 5 seconds anyway I would go with the 133 mhz FSB chips since you have a Via KT133A board.

AXIA core is the code on the line of the core of the CPU. CPU's with an AXIA core tend to overclock better than other cores, but if you buy a 1.2 ghz or higher chip, you should either get a AVIA or AXIA and both seem to overclock about just as well, so you win either way the way I look at it.

AXIA core's tend to do very good for overclocking if you look at it as an overall percentage rating. I'm running a 1ghz AXIA at 1.4ghz. That's 40% of an improvement over stock. I've seen alot of people with 1.2 ghz chips running around that or a bit higher, but the percentage versus price isn't there. Also, make sure you get a decent cooler for it. When you push 1.2ghz or higher, your talking some serious heat. Go for a Swiftech if you've got the $$, or get a Thermalright SK-6. That's a pretty impressive little heatsink. I'm only pushing about 41C at 1.4ghz.

Hope this helps!

yeah get a 1333 AXIA from bzboys.com!!!!!! 159 dollars not bad but around 10bucks shipping! you can get a 1GHz C type which stands for 133 fsb for 107dollars. also the b type is 105 dollars but I would go with the 133 for two bucks!

shafik23,

You should not have to pay any kind of a price premium for an 'AXIA' coded processor. I have seen hundreds of these now at computer shows. They are sold as garden variety CPUs.

I would strongly urge you to check out the comments about bzboyz.com at resellerratings prior to making any purchase with them, or any other online vendor.

The 'AXIA', 'AXIAR' and 'AYHJA' are all premium stepping codes, but I wouldn't pay a premium for any of them. If you buy online, you may have to pay a premium in order to secure a desirable stepping code, but if you can make it to a computer show, this should not be the case.
