I love my maxtor drives!

I think this is number 4 on the "I just died without warning cause I hate you" for this particular Hard drive!
Yipeeeeee, mom is going to be ****ed, Im pretty sure she had a few wordpad documents that took her along time to write up that I just lost for the 2nd time...

Unless I can find the backup disc I made but I doubt and that was made awhile ago so im pretty sure she lost a good bit of work..
ugh

are the drives dead physically or just unreadable by the OS?

I read that if you stick them in the freezer, you can get them to work long enough to get you info off. Never tried it myself though.

never heard of the freezer thing. But there is software that will pull info off them just as long as the bios reconizes them

Hey man, look at it this way, you didn't lose the data. The drive did. Its not your fault.

Ive seen posts about the freezer thing but I just dont see how it helps. but whatever, and thats why I asked if they were still physically ok, there are several progs that can recover data.

I read about the freezer thing on the Kim Komando site. Apparently, the cold makes the platters contract and allows the proper clearance between the platter and the head (at least until it warms back up) and gives you a little time to get your info transferred. Like I said though, I personally haven't ever tried it. Kim is usually pretty reliable as a source though.
